Interconnecting links, also known as shorting links, are utilized to connect two or more terminal blocks of the same type and potential. It is advisable to use factory-made shorting links designed to match the rated current and pitch of the terminal block for interconnection, as opposed to relying on wire looping, which is considered an unreliable practice.
Elmex provides the following types of shorting links:
- Permanent Cross Connection Link Assembly (CCLA):
Removable shorting links are employed to temporarily interconnect two adjacent terminal blocks, creating a switchable cross-connection. These links are attached to the terminal blocks using long studs and screws. Since the links sit above the terminal blocks’ top surface, they can be easily opened. For shorting a pair of terminal blocks, one removable link and two studs are needed. It is advisable to install a barrier plate or partition plate between two adjacent pairs of shorted terminal blocks. - Removable Shorting Link (RSL):
In the two types of shorting links described earlier, interconnection is achieved through screws or studs inserted into a tapped hole in the current bar. However, for certain terminal designs, such as stud-type terminal blocks, this method is not feasible. To address this issue, shorting links are designed to connect adjacent terminal blocks through termination points, such as stud and nut assemblies or clamping units located between the terminals. These links are typically available in 2, 3, 4, 5, and 10 ways. - Push-in Type Shorting Links (DSL/MSL/SSL):
These links are specifically designed for screwless terminal blocks and are available in two ways. They enable the shorting of a stack of terminal blocks of the same type using two-way shorting links. These push-in type shorting links can be inserted from the top into the current bars of the terminals, allowing the shorting of two terminal blocks with one link, three terminals with two links, four terminals with three links, and so on.
