Push-in Wire Connectors in the UAE: WAGO 221 Alternatives, Types, Ratings & Full Buying Guide (2026)

If you're wiring a lighting circuit, joining cable in a junction box, or fanning out an LED driver in a panel, chances are you've reached for a push-in wire connector. Once you've used them, you don't go back to twisted wire and screw terminals. They're faster, cleaner, reusable, and — when specified correctly — safer.

The category has been dominated globally by WAGO's 221 and 222 series lever connectors and the older 773 and 2273 push-in wire nuts. Excellent products — but in the UAE, they're premium-priced and often on long lead time. KableKonnect's PCT range is the alternative we've built at GoSwitchgear specifically for the UAE panel builder, MEP contractor and electrician: same connection technology, full range across all sizes, stocked in Dubai, delivered across the GCC.

This guide covers every push-in connector we stock — 33 SKUs across 8 series — with the exact WAGO equivalent, ratings, wire specs, use cases, and links to each product. If you know what you need, jump to the comparison table. If you're figuring out which type to use, start with the types explained section below.

Why push-in wire connectors have replaced wire nuts

The traditional wire nut — twist the wires, screw on the cap — is 90 years old and still ships by the truckload. It works. But for anyone wiring more than a handful of connections in a day, lever and push-in connectors have three advantages that add up fast:

  • Consistent connections. A cage-clamp spring gives the same clamping force every time, regardless of who's doing the work. A wire nut depends on how hard you twist — and how tired you are at the end of the shift.
  • Reusable and reversible. Lift the lever, pull the wire out, reposition, snap it back. Wire nuts, once twisted, are single-use.
  • Mixed conductor types. Lever connectors handle solid and stranded copper in the same connector without needing to pre-tin or crimp a ferrule. Wire nuts struggle with fine-stranded flexible cable.

The trade-off is cost per connection — a lever connector is a few dirhams versus a few fils for a wire nut. For a single-family villa rewire, that adds up. For a panel-build shop or a lighting install where speed and reliability are the constraint, the maths flips instantly.

How to read the ratings

Every push-in connector has a spec label that looks like "250 V · 32 A · PA66 · 0.08–4 mm² AWG 28–12 · strip 9–10 mm". Here's what each part means and why it matters:

  • Voltage rating (250 V / 400 V / 450 V) — the maximum system voltage. For UAE domestic (240 V single-phase) any 250 V connector is fine. For panel-side circuits above 250 V (3-phase 415 V, or any high-voltage control), use the 41-series (450 V) or the 10-series (400 V) instead of the standard 21-series.
  • Current rating (24 A / 32 A) — the maximum current through each pole. For lighting circuits (typically 6–10 A) either rating is over-specified. For sub-mains or a 32 A cooker feed, choose a 32 A connector.
  • Wire size (0.08–4 mm²) — the range of copper cross-sections the cage-clamp will grip. Typical UAE domestic cabling (1.5, 2.5 and 4 mm²) sits comfortably in the 21-series range. For 6 mm² and above, you're outside the push-in space and should be using screw terminals.
  • AWG (28–12) — the American Wire Gauge equivalent. Just a different unit for the same wire size — useful when working with imported LED strips, US-spec appliances, or older datasheets.
  • Strip length (9–10 mm or 12 mm) — how much insulation to strip before inserting. Too short = poor grip; too long = exposed conductor. Every KableKonnect connector body has a stripping guide moulded into the side.
  • Housing material (PA66 / PC / Nylon) — the plastic that resists heat and impact. All three are flame-retardant (V-0) rated. PC (polycarbonate) is used on the higher-voltage 41 and 10 series for its higher dielectric strength.

How to use a lever wire connector

  1. Strip the wire to the length shown on the connector body — typically 9–10 mm for lever series, 12 mm for the 10-series push-in wire nut.
  2. Lift the lever to 90° (fully upright). This opens the cage-clamp spring.
  3. Insert the stripped conductor fully into the port. You should see the copper reach the back of the transparent window.
  4. Push the lever back down — you'll hear and feel a click as the spring clamps onto the copper.
  5. Give the wire a gentle tug — it should not move. If it pulls out, either the strip length is wrong or the wire is outside the accepted size range.

For the 10-series push-in wire nuts (PCT-102, PCT-104, PCT-106, PCT-108) there's no lever — you strip the solid wire to 12 mm and push it firmly into the port until it seats. To remove, twist the wire while pulling — the internal cage releases.

Which connector for which job

Lighting circuits (downlights, ceiling roses, LED drivers)

Reach for the 21-series lever (PCT-213 for 3-way, PCT-215 for 5-way) or the colour-coded 2C series (PCT-2-3C / PCT-2-5C) if you want instant phase/neutral/earth identification. For a single downlight chain that needs to fan out from one incoming pair, the SPL deconcentrators (PCT-SPL-42 through PCT-SPL-93) do in one connector what would otherwise need three or four separate joints.

Junction boxes and back-boxes

The 10-series push-in wire nuts (PCT-102 2-port through PCT-108 8-port) are the classic answer — small footprint, no lever to catch on the back-box lid, rated 400 V. Use these when you're wiring solid-core 2.5 mm² and don't need to disconnect later.

Panel wiring & DIN-rail splices

The PCT-211 DIN-rail splice terminal is a screwless alternative to a standard feed-through terminal — click it onto the rail, push wires in, done. Paired with our existing DIN Rail Terminal Block range.

Higher voltage / heavier control circuits

For anything above 250 V or where hard-wire cross-section approaches 4 mm², step up to the 41-series (PCT-412 through PCT-415) — 450 V rated, PC housing.

LED strip and low-voltage distribution

The SPL deconcentrators shine here — PCT-SPL-93 splits three feeds into nine outputs, ideal for architectural LED runs off a single 12/24 V driver.

Joining two existing runs

The 2-series in-line connectors (PCT-2-2 through PCT-2-5) or their colour variants (PCT-2-2C through PCT-2-5C) are purpose-built for this — wires come in one side, go out the other, no need to loop back on yourself.

Frequently asked questions

Are KableKonnect PCT connectors a genuine WAGO replacement?

They're a compatible alternative built to the same connection principle (cage-clamp spring for lever series, push-in cage for wire-nut series) and rated to the same voltage/current/wire-size envelope. They're not manufactured by WAGO. In independent bench tests, KableKonnect connectors have shown pull-out force, contact resistance, and thermal cycling within the tolerance band expected of the WAGO reference — for a fraction of the landed cost in the UAE.

Which PCT part equals WAGO 221-415?

PCT-215 — 5-conductor same-side lever, 250 V, 32 A, wire 0.08–4 mm². See the comparison table for the full mapping.

Can I mix solid and stranded wire in the same connector?

Yes, in the lever series (21, 2, 2C, 223R, SPL, 41). The cage-clamp spring accommodates both. In the 10-series push-in wire nuts, solid wire only — stranded wire will not push in reliably.

Do I need to strip the wire to an exact length?

Yes — every connector has a moulded stripping guide on the side. For the 21/2/2C/223R/SPL/41 series it's 9–10 mm; for the 10-series it's 12 mm. Too short = poor grip; too long = exposed live conductor.

Are these safe for permanent installation?

Yes. They carry the same certifications as their WAGO equivalents (CE, RoHS) and are widely used in permanent fixed installations across UAE, EU and Asia. They're also reusable — you can open the lever, remove the wire, and reuse the connector.

What's the difference between PCT-2-2 and PCT-2-2H?

Same body and same electrical spec. The H suffix denotes a higher-temperature housing variant, useful in installations where ambient temperature exceeds 85 °C (some enclosed fixtures, LED driver housings).

What's the difference between the SPL and 223R splitters?

The 223R is a right-angle format with 2 in / 2-5 out — compact for panel-side fan-out. The SPL is a straight in-line format designed for the 4 mm² deconcentrator use case (LED distribution, driver output splitting) with up to 9 outgoing pairs.

Do you deliver outside the UAE?

Yes — we ship regularly to KSA, Oman, Kuwait, Qatar and Bahrain. Contact our sales team for a shipping quote or trade account.
